About the LYBA Travel Program

LYBA
sponsors travel teams for fourth, fifth, and six grade boys and
girls. Travel teams are a select group of teams that will play
games in the Youth Fort Ancient Valley Conference. Participation
for these teams is on a tryout basis. Any boy or girl who
resides in the Loveland School District and who is in the fourth,
fifth or sixth
grade, may tryout for the travel teams. If selected you will be
placed upon a select team to play games against other area
select teams. Opponents will generally be within a 30 minute
drive from Loveland. There will be at least two practices per
week, and one or two games each weekend.
REQUIRED COMMITMENT
If an
individual is selected to play on an LYBA Travel Team, that
individual is required to maintain 100% commitment to that team.
In the event of missed LYBA practices or games due to the
participation in any other activity, it is at the discretion of
the Travel Coach and/or Travel Director to conduct a review. If
the review does not find a satisfactory commitment from that
individual to his/her LYBA Travel Team, dismissal from the team
will occur for that individual with no refund of his/her
registration fees.
Please see the schedule
above for times and
locations for each age group.
Registrants who do not
wish to participate in the the travel team division will be
assigned a team within the recreational division. All
registrants in the third, seventh, or eighth grade will
automatically be assigned a team within the recreational
division.
All tryout results
will be posted on our website.
Results will not be listed by player name, players will be
identifiable only by their tryout number. Participants
will also be notified by email. Players without a valid
email address will be contacted by US Mail.
TRYOUT SESSIONS
Special thanks to the Loveland High School athletic department
for allowing us to hold tryouts in their facilities. In
order to minimize the number of people in the building, we will
not allow parents or siblings in the gym or hallways during the
tryouts.
Drop-off Instructions
Please plan on dropping your player off no more than 15
minutes prior to their tryout time. We ask that you
escort your player back to the gym, leave the building during
tryouts, then return and meet your player in the hallway when it
is over.
Format
Tryouts will be broken
out into two parts:
-
Drills
-
Controlled
Scrimmages
Drills
Selected drills during tryouts will allow for concentrated
display of ability. Some drills serve as a change of pace in the
tryout routine. The drills will be short in duration (5-10
minutes), and interesting. A variety of drills will keeps
players interested in seeking perfection, preventing boredom and
complacency. This will give evaluators the opportunity to see
all aspects of the player’s ability.
Drills will cover both
offensive and defensive skill areas
Every drill will give
the player the ability to display his/her ability in the game.
Controlled Scrimmages
During
this time of the tryout teams will be broken up into teams
selected by the organizer of the try-outs. Each selected coach
will control substituting and fouls. Each scrimmage will be 10
minutes. All defenses will be man-man defense during the
scrimmage time. After the completion of the 10 minutes two new
teams will be selected.
Evaluators will watch
for the same skills as outlined during the drill portion of the
try-out.
Selecting and Evaluating Players
Tryout
evaluations will be conducted by four evaluators. These
evaluators have been selected by the LYBA board. Each evaluator
will have an evaluation sheet that will score players abilities
in designated areas from 1-5. At the end of the tryout
period each evaluator will recommend their top 20 players based
on their assessment of each player in the following areas:
-
Basketball instinct
-
Attention to details
-
Ability to follow instructions
-
